Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is a specialty dedicated to improving the lives and daily function of children with acute and chronic disabilities. Also known as physiatrists, pediatric rehabilitation specialists have expertise in caring for children who have a wide range of congenital and acquired conditions resulting in physical disabilities. Emphasis is placed on the optimization of function through the combined use of medications, physical modalities, therapies, adaptive equipment and assistive devices, orthotics (braces), prostheses and collaboration with other subspecialists to provide a multidisciplinary approach to treatment.
